It was founded in 1969 in Cerdanyola del Vallès by a small group of Photography enthusiasts, with the aim of exchanging past experiences, ideas and emotions related to
the fascinating art of photography. Logo
In 1979, the association extended to the neighbouring
town of Ripollet, and since then activities have been carried out by both towns.
AFOCER is a founder member of the FCF, Federació Catalana de Fotografia. Through this Federation, it is linked to the CEF, Confederación Española de Fotografía,
and the FIAP, Federation Internationale de l'Art Photographique.
It is also member of the PSA, Photographic Society of America, and ISF, Image sans Frontiére.
AFOCER now has over 200 members, some of whom have followed a brilliant
creative career, resulting in several distinctions and awards in both national and international events.
The basic training of its members is the main objective of AFOCER. To achieve this, several beginners and advanced courses are periodically organised, together with specialist workshops
and seminars on various photographic techniques, competitions exclusively for members on varying topics, both in black and white, colour and slides, organising a total of 30 events
per year. The members have 2 fully-equipped laboratories and a photographic studio.
There is also a library service of specialised books.
To promote and publicise photography and its members, AFOCER regularly organises several exhibitions and competitions of different topics and categories, including l'Aplec de Sant
Iscle, Vila de Ripollet and the International Biennial Aqüeducte.
AFOCER owns important Photographic Records which are fully classified and computerised.
They are divided into two sections: Historical and Contemporary. The MIF project -Museu Internacional de Fotografia is now being developed based on these records.
