The first edition of what today is knows as the Vila de Ripollet competition was celebrated in 1981
In the first competitions(which were organized with different names each year) only monochrome photographs were accepted.
In 1998 the 20th edition was celebrated with the admission of color photography for the first time which notably improved the quality of the exposition.
The evolution of the Vila de Ripollet competition has been gradual and continuos along the years as much in the monitary rewards of the prizes as the quality of the winnig photographs.
As a result of this, the Vila de Ripollet is today a well respected oragnization because of growing appreciation of its best and cutting edge photgraphy.
